Over 900 Years of Faith & Community, in the heart of Battle

Welcome to St Mary’s

Steeped in heritage and Christian tradition, the church of St Mary the Virgin has been serving its community for almost 1,000 years.

I would love to invite you to join us at St Mary’s, where you will receive a warm welcome and have the opportunity to learn more about the Christian faith.

Perhaps, like me, you will find that your life is never the same again.

Lee Duckett, 48th Dean of Battle

What people say about

St Mary’s Battle

  • Amanda & Elspeth

"I love coming to St Mary's because it is a place of joy, peace and love…I always walk out feeling more hopeful, ready for the coming week and knowing we have prayed for goodness for our wonderful Battle!" A

"I have made new friends through St. Mary's and got to know some new families. We're all walking our own paths, it's good to come together and know that we're not alone." E

  • Paul

"I had a feeling that something was off, and it made me think of my Nanna, who had passed away but was with the Lord and was all about Love. Her name was Hope, and with that thought of hope in mind, I cautiously walked into St Mary’s, Battle. That was the start of my journey in faith, and I’ve kept coming to church ever since."

  • A stone’s throw from the site of the Battle of Hastings, St Mary’s – a daughter church of Battle Abbey – was built for the people of the town.

Now designated a Major Parish Church, one of only 300 in the country, this wonderful building is still honouring its commitment to faith and service.
